Following a recent accusation of theft, Afro-fusion singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, enthused a chosen group of media executives and celebrities with the particular flavour of their upcoming album “Outside.”
The event, which was held at WéRé House in Lekki, Lagos on Monday, is an opening to the album, which will be released on all digital music platforms on January 26 under Atlantic Records.
Douglas Jekan of The Beat FM was accused of the host’s duties while guiding a cheerful boy from Burna through a series of questions about the album.
The graduate of communication and culture at Oxford University Brooke said that all the songs on the album were motivated by something from his life.
He listed “Where I’m from” as his favourite song and his most personal song on the album.
He explained how a trip to Port Harcourt led to the track, ‘City Vibration’ and told how his experience with Drake led to ‘More Life’, the opening song of the album.
casting more light on other songs on the next album, he said, British pop singer Grammy nominee Lilly Allen appears in the fourth song titled, “Heaven’s Gate.”
He said: “The fast pace of Heaven’s Gate is a departure from my usual mid-tempo style and has a dancehall vibe that permeates the instrumental, I lend the song to patois while Lilly Allen interrupts her peculiar singing style. Cockney, vibrations and Indian rhythm that gives the song a more diverse appeal.
“The video was filmed in London, United Kingdom, and presents scenes in which a mother cooks and dances in the kitchen and other scenes where a family relaxes in the living room.These images that can be seen making the video unique and interesting”.
The maternal grandfather of Burna Boy, Benson Idonije, his mother and his sister attended.
Burna Boy said his changing, but many music fans see unique music style as something that closely resembles that of music legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who by the way was organized by his grandfather, the Mr Idonije.
Davido, Phyno, Skales, Idia Aisien, Nonso Bassey, Odunsi The Engine, Idyl, Leriq, DJ Lambo, Chopstix and DJ Spinall were some of the celebrities presents.
There was food and drinks, even when Burna Boy’s favourite food, Boli and Port Harcourt fish, was served from the trunk of a Peugeot 504 that had beautifully turned into a kitchen.
