Manchester United striker Alexis Sanchez revealed what the number 7 club shirt means to him.
The Chilean international received the iconic shirt number seven on Monday night after the long-awaited swap agreement was completed that led Henrikh Mkhitaryan to take the opposite direction, reaching one of the biggest transfer stories in the January window.
Sanchez said that wearing the number 7 shirt for United makes him dream of lifting the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League.
Sanchez told MUTV: “When they told me that Cristiano [Ronaldo], [Eric] Cantona, David Beckham had used it, just thinking about that number seven makes you think about throwing away the Champions League trophy and winning the title of the Premier League, “he said.
“So yes, I am fulfilling a dream, and I hope to give my best and win many trophies in this club.”
Sanchez was strongly related to a move towards Manchester City rivals, managed by former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola.
In the end, City ended his interest in the striker, but Sanchez hopes to recreate the atmosphere of the dressing rooms of his stage in Catalonia while betting to return the success to United.
“I think having a family in the locker room is very important when it comes to winning trophies,” he explained.
“I played in Spain, and we also had a nice dressing room, and I won a lot of things, so I think that in my experience of being in the locker room, it is essential to have an excellent group.
“I also think that the club always needs to strengthen and attract players, and in this case that’s why I’m here, to work hard for the team and to try to win everything with them.”
