The head of the Red Devils was energetic in his rejection of rumors that the goalkeeper could be on his way out in the midst of persistent rumors about the interest of Real Madrid.
There is no “possibility” that David de Gea will leave Manchester United at the end of the season, according to José Mourinho.
Spanish international De Gea has become the best goalkeeper in the world since joining United from Atlético de Madrid in 2011.
After enduring a difficult start to life in the club, he has become a key player for United and, as such, has been systematically linked to distant moves.
Real Madrid has been mentioned as particularly regular suitors and was close to joining them in August 2015, before the agreement fell by the day of the transfer.
Zinedine Zidane’s team is still linked with a move for the 27-year-old, but Mourinho is not worried about him leaving.
When asked if there was any chance that De Gea was not in United next season, Mourinho said: “There’s no chance.”
Another player who had a slow start after joining United is Alexis Sanchez, who had little impact in his first months at the club after a move in January from Arsenal.
But it had improved steadily and produced an unusually current exhibition against Tottenham in the FA Cup semifinal, scoring the winner when United triumphed 2-1.
The next for Sanchez is a meeting with former club Arsenal at Old Trafford and Mourinho is confident that the Premier League will see the best of Chile next season.
“He played in [the Premier League] for years, we all know how good he was, that’s why so many teams chased him, I think,” Mourinho said.
“That’s why we fought to have him here, and he was from the beginning [saying] that he is the right player, not only because of the typical qualities of football but because of his mentality.
“We needed it, we needed more experience, more mental aggression and I knew that sooner or later it would come.
“I do not like the January market, but now or never, can you help us the way you are helping us lately for the rest of the season? I hope so and feel it, but what I’m sure of is the next season.
“After the preseason and after being comfortable and adapted, it will be great for us.”
