Unless you have your heart set on the supercharged V-8 version of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport, and the funds to support a purchase over $ 80,000, you may want to consider the diesel version of the vehicle.
The HSE Td6 has a lot of power to accompany luxury, sportiness and better fuel economy.
All luxury SUVs have a price: the purchase price combined with the fact that heavier vehicles with large V-8 engines burn gas more quickly.
I really dig the V-8, but not everyone needs more than 500 horsepower with just 15 mpg. Fortunately, the diesel version is better than that.
I spent a week on a Range Rover Sport HSE Td6 of $ 73,645, the top level of equipment for the diesel model. The turbocharged V-6 diesel contains 254 hp, which does not sound impressive, but a healthy 443 foot-pounds torque will push it back into its seat. The Range Rover has a lot of potential for most drivers looking for power and economy.
There’s a bit of that diesel noise at the start, but once you leave, you forget it’s a diesel, it’s very quiet on the highway. I had no problems keeping up with the traffic. (Hint: do not drive a supercharged V-8 version, or it will be ruined by anything else).
The fuel economy with this heavy SUV (almost 5,000 pounds) is surprisingly good. I did even better – 25.4 mpg in combined handling – than the 24 mpg predicted.
I’m not sure my small John Deere mower and trailer was registered as the actual weight, but I also towed it. For those who are not used to driving with a hitch and trailer, the built-in camera system facilitates operation in one person. There is even an optional trailer package, which allows you to reverse and steer, with the rotary knob. Just point to where you want to go and the car will make it possible.
My ride had the standard 20-inch wheels and they took the city roads better than the larger wheels of the previous Range Rover Sport models I drove. The handling is something sporty for such a large and heavy vehicle. That means it’s firmer in turns compared to the even bigger Land Rovers I’ve driven.
You always expect luxury with a Range Rover, and the Sport is no different. Although not as spacious as the largest Land Rover, there is ample space for up to five people. The HSE equipment level includes high-end perforated leather seats that are also heated and ventilated, both in the front and back.
The rear seat space is good for most passengers, but taller passengers may want a little more legroom. The cargo space is not the best for this kind of vehicle, but loading and unloading is very easy with a quick and silent hands-free tailgate.
A new larger 10-inch screen responds well to your touch and there are even knobs (something that competitors seem to have eliminated) that add a good option for easy operation.
The graphics on this Range Rover infotainment system have improved, but some of the competitors are even better. The cabin could not be as futuristic as others, but I prefer the beautiful materials and the elegant and simple design of the Range Rover Sport.
The Range Rover Sport has the Land Rover bloodlines, but it comes with a more energetic touch. I prefer their lower posture and the lower roof line, which adds to the appearance of “ready for anything.” Adding to the sporting sensation of the SUV are the vents on the top of the hood and on the front fenders. Customers who can expect a shiny and shiny finish will notice a duller aluminum, and even some darker colors.
Adding to the appearance is the lack of stirrups, that is due to a suspension of air that lowers to facilitate entry and exit.
My Range Rover Sport Td6 comes in a classic Balmoral Blue, the color it would choose for me. There is also a choice of a second color, in this case, an elegant gray, for the roof.
If you want an SUV that can go anywhere: from the carpool to the cabin in the mountains, this Range Rover Sport can take you in style. And with the efficient diesel option, you can travel many more miles between refueling. The Range Rover Sport Td6 also works as a smaller vehicle, and comes with a fun driving attitude that you normally do not think about when you hear the Land Rover name.
